Why is it useful to know whether most neighbours are owners or tenants in a block?

Buildings with a high proportion of owners often have a different feel from those with very frequent tenant turnover. Owners tend to stay longer, take an interest in long-term maintenance, and get involved in association decisions. Tenants may be perfectly nice, but they’re usually more focused on the short term.

Knowing the balance helps set your expectations. In a mostly owner-occupied building, you might find more stability and a stronger push to invest in improvements. In a heavily rented one, rules might be looser, but you may see more comings and goings, different lifestyles, and sometimes less care for common areas.

Neither is automatically good or bad; it depends on what you value. But it’s good to understand the “personality” of the building before you move in.
