Very light floors look airy, but they can show every speck of dirt, hair and scuff. Very dark floors look dramatic and sophisticated, but they also highlight dust, footprints and scratches. In busy homes, that can mean constant cleaning just to keep things looking acceptable.
Mid-tone floors – not too light, not too dark – tend to be more forgiving. Everyday dust blends in better, small scratches don’t shout, and minor spills are less visually obvious (though you still clean them, of course).
They also work well with a wide range of wall colours and furniture styles. If you change decor over time, a mid-tone floor is flexible enough to support many looks without clashing.
It’s a gentle middle path that keeps your home looking good with a normal, human amount of effort.
