Ground-floor and easily reachable windows are tempting entry points, especially if they can be pushed open from the outside. Standard locks sometimes wear out, or people forget to use them properly when ventilating rooms.
Adding secondary latches or restrictors – especially ones that limit how far a window can open – gives you extra control. You can keep windows partially open for air but still secured so they can’t be pushed wide from the outside. When fully closed, an extra latch is another barrier someone would have to defeat.
This doesn’t replace good primary locks, but it adds another step for anyone trying their luck. For casual or opportunistic attempts, additional small obstacles can be enough to put them off.
The idea isn’t to turn your home into a fortress, just to make it a less convenient target than the next one.
