Electricians, internet technicians, solar panel installers, even party decorators sometimes go up on roofs to run wires, fix things, or set up equipment. If they drag sharp tools, drop heavy objects, or drill without care, they can damage waterproof membranes, tiles or protective coatings.
The problem is, leaks caused by such damage might not show immediately. Water finds these new weak points later, during heavy rain, and then appears as stains inside your home. By that time, the workers are long gone and nobody connects the two events.
Insisting that anyone accessing the roof is careful – and ideally supervised or given clear instructions – protects this delicate layer. It’s also wise for building management to have clear guidelines on roof access.
One careless step can undo years of good waterproofing.
