How can adjusting tap flow slightly lower reduce splashing around basins and sinks?

Sometimes the problem isn’t the basin; it’s the speed. Very strong water flow hitting a shallow sink or angled surface tends to bounce and splash everywhere – onto mirrors, counters, your clothes. You end up constantly wiping around the tap.

Most taps can be adjusted slightly at the valve or by partially closing the angle cock beneath. Reducing the flow a bit creates a smoother stream that stays under control but is still plenty for washing hands or rinsing dishes.

Combined with a good aerator, this gentler flow saves water and mess at the same time. The basin area stays drier, which also means fewer water stains and less risk of mould or damage around edges.

You’re not losing function; you’re just matching the force to the space.
