Different water systems behave differently. In a gravity-fed setup, water flows from an overhead tank downwards, so pressure depends on height and pipe design. In pumped systems, a motor actively pushes water, sometimes giving stronger and more even pressure.
Knowing which system you have helps you understand why some taps are weaker than others, which floors might struggle with pressure, and how to plan future fixtures. For example, certain fancy showers or appliances need a minimum pressure to work properly.
If you know you’re on a weak gravity system, you might choose simpler fittings or plan to add a booster pump. If you’re on a strong pumped system, you’ll be more careful about pressure on old pipes or fixtures.
It also helps during troubleshooting. When someone asks, “Do you have a pump?” you can answer confidently instead of guessing.
