Big TVs, gaming consoles, laptops, expensive speakers, jewellery stands – if they sit right in front of open windows, they act like display items. People walking by can see exactly what’s inside and where it’s placed.
Most of the time nothing happens, but it only takes one person with bad intentions to remember, “That house has a large TV just inside the window,” or “There’s always a laptop on that desk.” You don’t want to advertise your belongings.
Rearranging furniture slightly, using sheer curtains, or moving obvious valuables away from direct street view makes your home less interesting to someone scanning for targets. It costs nothing to shift a TV to a less exposed wall or to keep small items a little deeper inside the room.
Out of sight doesn’t guarantee safety, but it reduces temptation.
